ARM and Uprising Mask-ER-Aid Keffiyeh Day Collaboration
ARM and Uprising Theater have teamed up to bring you a special keffiyeh mask. Launched on Keffiyeh Day, May 11th, this fabric PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is made from an authentic Palestinian keffiyeh (purchased through PaliRoots).
Uprising Theater is a Palestinian founded and lead 501(c)3 arts organization dedicated to giving voice to the people of Palestine and others who are marginalized. Primarily Uprising produces theater, but while the stages and galleries are dark, Uprising and ARM are working together to help Chicago’s theater artists keep their lights on. The keffiyeh mask collaboration not only provides financial support for local artists but also addressed the need for PPE supply. ARM and Uprising are working together to fill the supply gap and flatten the curve.
Masks cost $19.48 and all net profits are split 50/50 between ARM and Uprising Theater. You can also choose to buy one mask and donate a second mask for those in need for $25.48.
While you’re in the ARM Etsy store and you've already added your keffiyeh mask(s) to your cart, we encourage you to check out the other offerings: masks in other fun patterns, child size masks, bulk orders, ear saver headbands and more. By purchasing from Artists Resource Mobilization (ARM - a project of the Apparel Industry Foundation, Inc.), you are not only supporting public health but you will also be supporting the Chicago performing arts community in a time of mass unemployment. These masks are constructed by expert costume and garment fabricators who have pivoted their skills. By choosing to shop at the ARM Etsy store you are supporting the a local mission driven organization, lead by women, dedicated to keeping the Chicago entertainment industry employed until theaters and music venues reopen, until film and television programs start shooting again, and until we have flattened the curve.
Mask FAQ’s
Why does the keffiyeh mask cost more then other masks in the ARM Etsy store?
The cost of this item reflects our dedication to paying artists a fair working wage ($15-20 per hour) plus the extra time and materials to make a safe mask, using authentic products from Palestine (rather than mass-produced products) that support Palestinian art in Chicago.
What is a Keffiyeh?
What does it symbolize? Is it appropriate for certain people to wear a Keffiyeh pattern? The factory in Palestine has excellent articles on all of these subjects.
About Masks Made By ARM
The keffiyeh masks are professionally made from an authentic keffiyeh scarf and 2 layers 100% quilters cotton. Shaped style and aluminum, shapeable nose wire make this style well suited for everyone, but particularly helpful for glasses wearers who want to avoid fogging! Two types of ties are available. Mask fabrics are pre-washed in hot water and dried at high temperatures before building.
Everything here is manufactured in a clean, (but not medically sterile) environment. Artists Resource Mobilization encourages you to wash each product before use and between each use. While there is significant data to support the use of physical barriers to reduce transmission of airborne droplets, which can infect a person with respiratory viruses, you understand these masks do not guarantee protection against the transmission of any diseases.
How Fast Can I Get My Mask?
